HUSKY ASPHALT
From the ground up
Husky has produced high-quality asphalt in its special-ized
refinery in Lloydminster, Alta., since the 1940s.
Asphalt is developed for customers across North
America and shipped coast to coast by truck and rail.
Over eight decades, Husky has covered a lot of ground, paving
12.7 million miles of roadway across North America. And they also
spend a lot of time thinking about asphalt – how to improve it, make
it last longer and perform better, from the ground up.
Paving the way
Glenn E. Nielson started the business with a single leased oilfield
and the reopening of the shuttered Park Refinery in Cody, Wyoming
in 1938. By 1952, Nielson had built the Husky Oil Company, with
production in seven states and Canada, and refineries producing
gasoline and the versatile paving material, asphalt.
Asphalt emulsions appeared on the market well over 50 years ago,
originally to help deliver asphalt at a useable temperature to remote
locations. Its uses and benefits have grown over the years. Early on,
Husky partnered with Pounder Emulsions, the leader in emulsi-fied
asphalts in Western Canada for decades, and then purchased
the company in 1983. Today, Husky produces more than 30 types of
emulsified asphalts.
All those years and millions of miles have solidified Husky
Asphalt’s reputation for technical excellence and product integrity.
