No compromise on safety
Another thing Milltek has focused on build-ing
over the years is a strong safety culture
and a safety program that is COR certified.
“Safety is the hot topic when construc-tion
is happening – ask anyone in the busi-ness.
Every job starts and ends with safety,”
said Miller. “With safety standards always
evolving, this is a vital commitment that ev-eryone
takes seriously. The goal is to teach
each crew member to think about safety
first with every task, and eliminate any risks
and potential hazards before work starts.”
Miller says that because Milltek oper-ates
as a plan-safety-work company, every
employee is directly involved in making
sure the safety program is relevant and
maintained.
“Through training, new hire orientations,
mentoring, regular safety meetings, inspec-tions,
documentation of work conditions,
near misses, observations and incidents –
this is how our safety program evolves and
stays strong."
Community involvement
through SHCA
Milltek joined SHCA in 2015 with the goal of
becoming more involved in the heavy con-struction
industry and having access to the
further education and networking opportu-nities
offered by the association. Miller be-lieves
that participation in the construction
community, working to develop strong re-lationships,
supports the company’s overall
goal of achieving excellence.
When it comes to heavy construction,
Milltek is experienced in preliminary plan-ning,
civil earthworks, as-built, volumes,
surveys, pile layouts, cut-offs and cap-ping,
foundations, buildings and more;
however, as Miller says, nowadays the ma-jority
of the larger companies carry their
own surveyors as this makes for a great-er
connection to the project and company
co-coordinators.
But because it is not possible for all
companies to carry their own surveyors,
Milltek is in place to provide that same
benefit to members looking for support in
survey services.
“We take great pride in delivering the re-liable,
accountable service that the con-struction
industry demands, and not only
in the field,” said Miller. “We also have the
office support to keep data and records in
check and up to date.”
The bottom line is that the Milltek crews
can take on whatever work comes their
way. The company runs three crews steadi-ly,
but as Miller says, it has the ability to add
more when necessary.
With good reason, Miller takes pride in his
company and the work it has accomplished.
Looking ahead, his future plans for Milltek
Surveys are simple: to continue to provide
reliable service and be a valuable member of
the construction community.
