Chamney says that his company is heavi-ly
focused on following safe practices.
“Whenever we hire new employees, we
let them know what our safety procedures
are and how important it is,” he said. “This
business involves a lot of moving parts and
heavy equipment. You’ve got to try and
teach them the way you want things done.
A lot of guys have experience, but are not
necessarily experienced with the safe way
to do things.”
As part of Chamney’s vision for his com-pany
to diversify, he made the decision to
join the Saskatchewan Heavy Construction
Association more than 10 years ago.
“In the beginning, I joined the associ-ation
to try and meet more people in the
industry and to keep track of what’s go-ing
on in the province,” said Chamney. “It
wasn’t simply about looking for work, but
helping our company spread its wings.
Sometimes it feels like we’re stuck in this
corner, so to meet other guys and find out
what they’re doing and things like that have
been nice.”
